Transform plain WhatsApp messages into stylish typographic art.
WhatsApp shows your text at four different sizes and each favours a different style. The profile name (25 characters) appears smallest, in chat lists and group member lists, so it wants a style that reads at small size: sans-serif bold or small caps. The About (139 characters) is read on your profile at a comfortable size and takes script or fraktur well as a single line. Group subjects (25 characters) sit at the top of the chat and are scanned quickly, bold or a bracket frame works. Status captions are read at full size over a photo, where almost anything is legible, so that is where the decorative frames belong.
WhatsApp runs on iOS, Android, Web and Desktop, and each uses the host system's fonts. The mathematical alphabets (bold, italic, script, fraktur, double-struck) are covered on all four. Small caps are covered on iOS and modern Android, and on Windows and macOS through Segoe UI Symbol and the Apple system font; they may fall back on old Android. The framed styles depend on their frame symbols: stars, hearts and brackets are universal, the hieroglyph and Tibetan wing frames are not always present on Windows. If a group member sees a box where you see a wing, that is the cause; swap the frame for lenticular brackets.
139 characters, including any styled letters and frame characters. The count under each result here already includes the frame.
Sans-serif bold or small caps. The name is displayed small in chat lists, and those two styles keep their letter shapes at that size. Script and blackletter become hard to scan.
The frame symbol is missing from their font. Egyptian hieroglyph and Tibetan marks used in some wing frames are not in Windows' default fonts. Lenticular brackets, stars and hearts are safe everywhere.
